A tribute to the islands' Viking past, Up Helly-Aa ("End of the Holy Days") fire festivals are held in Shetland annually.

To show how stories in our May/June 2012 issue fit into the broader context of world events, this edition of Link Up brings the Internet to you. No Google search required.

Worldwide Festivities
Out feature story, “Get Festive,” offers a comprehensive list of musical, historical, and artistic festivals in the Tri-State area. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the weekends are filled with guaranteed good times — depending on your interests. Taking wacky to a whole new level, here’s a link to some outrageously entertaining festivals around the world.

Fish Fight
In our story “Home At Last,” local Marine Corps veteran Erik Goodge — who spent 16 months in and out of the hospital after his squad was hit by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan — told us about his new therapeutic hobby, fly-fishing. On a fishing excursion in Montana, Goodge participated in a documentary, Not Yet Begun to Fight, which shows how the quiet waters can heal the injured soul. Check out the trailer here — with a tissue nearby.

Creative Motions
On June 5, the theatrical, black-suited musicians of Blue Man Group are coming to Evansville with their trademark blue skin and pulsating percussive vibes, voiceless comedy, and stunning visual effects. Our short review, “Bluephoria,” gives our readers a Blue Man Group teaser, describing a show favorite as a “wild spray-paint-on-paper antic that splashes paint on audience members sitting in the first few rows.” This video shows another avant-garde entertainment group specializing in creativity.
